HaAv (הָאָב) — The Father
- HaAv (or Av / Abba) Hah-AHV (HaAv = The Father; Abba = intimate “Daddy” / Papa)
HaAv is the Hebrew way of referring to the Father — the eternal, uncreated source of all things, the One Yeshua came to reveal.
We love using this reverent title because it honors the God of Israel who spoke to the fathers through the prophets and who sent His only begotten Son into the world. Yeshua Himself most often addressed Him as Father (and intimately Abba), teaching us to pray “Our Father in heaven” (Matt 6:9).
The Scriptures reveal HaAv as:
- The Creator and Sustainer of all things (Gen 1:1; Col 1:16-17)
- The One who so loved the world that He gave His only Son (John 3:16)
- The Father of mercies and God of all comfort (2 Cor 1:3)
- The One Yeshua perfectly glorified and obeyed (John 5:19-20; John 17:1)
He is not distant or unknowable. Through Yeshua we are brought near and adopted as beloved children, crying out “Abba, Father!” (Rom 8:15; Gal 4:6).
We use the Hebrew title HaAv here with the same affection and reverence we give to Yeshua ha Mashiach and Ruach ha Kodesh — because we love the triune God who has revealed Himself to us.
