John the Baptist – The Forerunner
Deep Study
John the Baptist was the prophesied forerunner (Isaiah 40:3) who prepared the way for the Messiah.
John the Baptist’s Theology:
- Repentance: He called for radical heart change, not just external ritual (“Bear fruits worthy of repentance” – v. 8).
- Kingdom of Heaven is near: The long-awaited reign of God was breaking in through the Messiah.
- Judgment is coming: He warned of the axe at the root of the trees and unquenchable fire — a call to urgent decision.
- The Coming One: He pointed to Yeshua as far greater than himself — the One who would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.
- Humility: “He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry” (v. 11).
John’s message was simple and powerful: Turn from sin and turn to the coming King.
Yeshua Connection:
John prepared the way for Yeshua, the true King and Judge, who brings both salvation and righteous judgment.
