The Temptation of Jesus and Overcoming the Devil
Deep Study
After His baptism, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil for forty days.
The Three Temptations:
- Turn stones into bread – Appeal to physical need / self-provision.
- Jump from the temple – Test God’s protection / demand a sign.
- Worship Satan for the kingdoms – Compromise for power and glory.
Yeshua’s Response:
Jesus answered every temptation with “It is written” — quoting Deuteronomy. He refused to use His power for self-interest, refused to test the Father, and refused to worship anyone but God.
Significance:
- Yeshua succeeded where Adam and Israel failed.
- He faced real temptation as a man, yet remained sinless.
- His victory shows He is the perfect High Priest who can sympathize with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15).
Key Truth:
Yeshua overcame the devil through obedience to God’s Word. He is our example and our Champion who defeated the enemy on our behalf.
