Key Theological Summary
Just as Joshua led the people out of the wilderness and into the Promised Land after Moses could not, Yeshua succeeds where the Law cannot. Moses brought the people to the border, but Joshua took them in. In the same way, the Law brings us to the knowledge of sin, but Yeshua Ha’Mashiach brings us all the way into salvation and rest.
The name Yeshua is deliberate. The angel told Joseph:
“You shall call His name Yeshua, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
Yeshua is the true and greater Joshua:
- He leads His people through the “Jordan” of death into eternal life.
- He defeats every enemy that stands against us.
- He gives the true and lasting rest that Joshua’s generation only tasted in shadow.
