Why We Use “Yeshua ha Mashiach”
Yes, Jesus is just fine. It is the beloved, time-honored English form of His name, and millions of faithful hearts have called upon Him by that name and been saved. We have no quarrel with it—none at all.
But here on this little site we love Him so much that we also delight in using the name He was actually called while He walked this earth in human flesh: Yeshua (יֵשׁוּעַ). It is the Hebrew/Aramaic name given to Him by the angel before He was born, meaning “Yahweh saves” or “Salvation of Yahweh.” Matt 1:21.
We use it not out of pride or superiority, but out of affection and reverence — the same kind of affection that makes a man call his wife by her most intimate name instead of only her formal title. It is our way of drawing near to the real, historical, Jewish Messiah who was born in Bethlehem, grew up in Nazareth, taught in Galilee, and laid down His life outside Jerusalem.
So great is the Father’s love for the world that He gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16). And that little Greek word houtos (“so”) carries the weight of eternity — it speaks of love so vast, so intense, so costly that it demanded the giving of the Beloved. You can read more about that powerful little word here.
Whether you call Him Jesus, Yeshua, or Yeshua ha Mashiach (Yeshua the Anointed One), the heart of the matter is the same: He is the only Savior, the Wicket Gate, the Door, the narrow Way. We simply love saying the name His mother and His brothers used when they spoke to Him at the supper table — because we love Him.
