This plural language shows God’s majesty and His heavenly court, but the Bible is clear: Yahweh alone is uncreated, sovereign, and worthy of worship (Deuteronomy 4:35, Isaiah 43-45). No other elohim is like Him.

Divine Council
God’s heavenly assembly where He presides over spiritual beings (Psalm 82:1, 1 Kings 22:19-23, Job 1-2). These beings advise, carry out decrees, and are accountable to Him. Psalm 82 shows judgment on corrupt members of the council. This is not mythology — it’s the biblical worldview. -
Sons of God
Spiritual beings who serve in the council (Genesis 6:1-4, Job 1:6, Deuteronomy 32:8-9 in some manuscripts). Some remained faithful; others rebelled (the “watchers” tradition). Their actions affect human history and explain much of the spiritual conflict in the Old Testament. -
The Unseen Realm / Heavenly Host
The invisible dimension populated by angels, principalities, powers, cherubim, seraphim, and other entities (Ephesians 6:12, Colossians 1:16). These beings influence nations, events, and individuals, but they are created and limited. Yeshua created them, rules them, and disarmed them at the cross (Colossians 2:15). -
Watchers / Fallen Angels
A class of “sons of God” who rebelled, leading to corruption before the Flood (Genesis 6, expanded in 1 Enoch — Heiser treats this as helpful background, not inspired canon). Their influence continues in idolatry and spiritual oppression. -
Principalities, Powers, Rulers, Authorities
New Testament terms for organized spiritual forces that oppose God’s kingdom (Ephesians 6:12, Daniel 10). They often stand behind earthly powers and false religion. Christ’s victory strips their ultimate authority.

This framework gives a natural bridge to LDS friends who already believe in a populated spirit realm and pre-mortal existence. You can affirm the Bible’s rich view of the unseen world, then show how it differs sharply: only one uncreated God (Yeshua is fully that God), all other beings are created and subordinate, and salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone — not progression to godhood.
It also challenges comfortable churches that reduce the spirit realm to “angels and demons” without the full biblical depth.
